Todd Rothenhaus MD, CMIO, athenahealth
"Thanks for a very rich conference. I was glad to connect with thought leaders in health care IT from provider organizations, IT companies, pharma and health plans. For me, this conference is valuable because I get to hear new ideas from a handful of leaders from different sectors who are driving innovation in healthcare IT. Thanks again for a very powerful conference."

Mission:

Assess current ACO models and predict what ACO models will look like in the future. Provide influential findings and recommendations for the healthcare industry, providing insights about and establishing best practices/guidelines for Accountable Care Organizations through thoughtful analysis and research.

Purpose:

The purpose of the Accountable Care Organization (ACO) Research Project is to lead the industry and other key stakeholders in solving challenges and identifying opportunities related to potential models for ACO’s in healthcare. Working with providers and other healthcare leaders from a range of backgrounds and experiences, as well as technologists and researchers, the ACO Research Project will be focused on defining viable models, identifying key trends, analyzing risks and challenges, and understanding the impact that ACO’s will have on the delivery of care.  Then, the group will provide insights and recommendations in a variety of formats for industry consideration including “10 Things You Need to Know about ACOs.”

Action Group Goals:

The goal of the ACO Research Project is to provide information resources that will assist industry executives in understanding how ACO’s will affect organizations and ultimately the continuum of care. The group will provide in-depth analysis of a fragmented market in a relatively early phase of developing ACO models, which increases the challenge of properly and effectively utilizing ACO models to reduce costs, improve access and improve the quality of care.

Serving as a resource to care providers and supporting groups responsible for the delivery of care, iHT2 research projects provide resources and tools such as reports, white papers, news articles, and other items of interest on topics across the healthcare industry. These resources and tools can include an analysis of Accountable Care Organizations, best practices, recommendations, guidelines and surveys focusing on patient engagement.

The ACO Research Project is comprised of individuals originating from care provider, vendor, IT executive, academic, legal, and/or advocacy background. This diverse group is well versed in patient centered care, health policy, information technology and the healthcare landscape.
